Fujairah: the Gulf of Oman emirate and where to buy
- Ruling family
- Al Sharqi
- Area
- ≈ 1 165 km²
- Part of the UAE since
- 1971
The only emirate that lies entirely on the east coast, by the Gulf of Oman — mountains, diving and resorts far from city bustle.
History
For centuries the east coast lived on trade, fishing and farming in mountain oases. Al Bidya Mosque and Fujairah Fort are among the country's oldest buildings. Britain recognised Fujairah as a separate emirate only in 1952, and in 1971 it became a founding member of the UAE.
Fujairah today
A strategic port outside the Strait of Hormuz, oil storage and bunkering, and tourism: Al Aqah beaches, diving off Dibba and the Hajar mountains.
Where to buy
Resort property on the coast — Fujairah Beach and Al Aqah; quiet villas — Dibba. The market is small and mostly about holidays and seasonal rentals rather than quick resale.
Rules for foreign buyers
Foreigners can buy in specific projects and zones. The market is less transparent than Dubai's: always check the type of title, the project's permits and the developer.
