Ajman: the smallest emirate and where to buy
- Ruling family
- Al Nuaimi
- Area
- ≈ 260 km²
- Part of the UAE since
- 1971
A compact emirate half an hour from Dubai with some of the lowest prices for seaside homes in the UAE.
History
Ajman grew from a fishing village on the Gulf coast. For centuries people here built wooden dhows, fished and dived for pearls. The Al Nuaimi family has ruled the emirate since the early 19th century. In 1971 Ajman became a founding member of the UAE.
Ajman today
A small economy based on trade, light industry and a free zone. Many residents work in Dubai and Sharjah and live here because of the lower cost of living.
Where to buy
A resort area with a golf course and mangrove lagoons — Al Zorah. Seafront towers — Ajman Corniche. Affordable neighbourhoods — Emirates City and Al Yasmeen. Good for a budget buy-to-let, but the market is less liquid than Dubai's.
Rules for foreign buyers
Foreigners can buy freehold property in designated zones. Transactions are registered with the Ajman Department of Land and Real Estate Regulation. Check the developer and escrow as carefully as in Dubai.
How PromptEstates helps
