The northernmost emirate, with mountains and beaches, is seeing a surge of buyer interest thanks to the Wynn resort on Al Marjan Island.
History
Julfar, a major medieval trading port, stood where the emirate is today. The famous 15th-century navigator Ahmad ibn Majid was born here. The emirate is ruled by the Al Qasimi dynasty. Ras Al Khaimah did not sign the 1971 agreement at once and joined the UAE on 10 February 1972 as the seventh emirate.
Ras Al Khaimah today
Tourism (beaches, the Hajar mountains, the world's longest zipline on Jebel Jais), cement and ceramics production, and the RAKEZ free zone. The main driver of the property market is the Wynn Al Marjan Island resort, expected to open in 2027.
Where to buy
A man-made archipelago with beaches and the Wynn resort — Al Marjan Island. Golf and a marina — Al Hamra Village. A lagoon waterfront — Mina Al Arab. Prices are still below Dubai's, but on Al Marjan they are rising fast.
Rules for foreign buyers
Foreigners buy freehold property in designated zones, including Al Marjan Island, Al Hamra and Mina Al Arab. Transactions are registered with the Ras Al Khaimah Land Department. The Golden Visa for property of AED 2 million or more applies here too.
